Research-Based Curriculum

Girls Inc. offers a variety of programs aimed at empowering girls and young women through education, mentorship, and hands-on activities. Each of these curricula are designed to provide girls with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to succeed in life, ensuring they grow up strong, smart, and bold.  These programs are provided through the support of Girls Inc. National and are designed to grow along with the girls.

Operation SMART (Science, Math, and Relevant Technology)

  • Objective: To foster interest and proficiency in STEM subjects.
  • Activities: Includes engaging girls in experiments, projects, and problem-solving tasks that involve science, technology, engineering, and math concepts. Activities might include building models, conducting scientific experiments, and exploring technological tools.

Sporting Chance

  • Objective: To encourage physical activity, healthy living, and sportsmanship.
  • Activities: Involves a wide range of sports and physical activities, from team sports like soccer and basketball to individual activities like running and yoga. The program also includes education on nutrition, personal fitness, and the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle.

Economic Literacy

  • Objective: To teach financial skills and promote economic independence.
  • Activities: Covers topics such as budgeting, saving, investing, understanding credit, and entrepreneurship. Girls learn through interactive lessons, real-world simulations, and activities like managing a mock business or creating personal financial plans.

Friendly PEERsuasion

  • Objective: To equip girls with skills to resist pressures and make healthy decisions.
  • Activities: Uses role-playing, group discussions, and peer-led sessions to build skills in assertiveness, decision-making, and peer support. The program also addresses topics like substance abuse prevention and healthy relationships.

Leadership and Community Action

  • Objective: To develop leadership skills and encourage civic engagement.
  • Activities: Includes leadership training, community service projects, and opportunities to engage in advocacy. Girls are encouraged to identify community issues they care about and to work on projects that make a positive impact.

Media Literacy

  • Objective: To develop critical thinking skills regarding media and its messages.
  • Activities: Involves analyzing media content, creating media messages, and discussing the portrayal of women and girls in the media. The program encourages girls to understand and challenge media stereotypes and to create their own positive media.

Project BOLD

  • Objective: To promote safety and self-defense skills.
  • Activities: Teaches personal safety strategies, self-defense techniques, and ways to handle bullying and harassment. The program also covers topics like internet safety and building healthy relationships.

College and Career Readiness

  • Objective: To prepare girls for post-secondary education and careers.
  • Activities: Includes college tours, career exploration, mentorship, SAT/ACT prep, and workshops on application processes and financial aid. The program aims to inspire and equip girls with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue higher education and meaningful careers.
