Our afterschool, summer and outreach programs focus on science, math, and technology, health and sexuality, economic and financial literacy, sports skills, leadership and advocacy, and media literacy for girls ages 6 to 15. While our goal is to reach all girls, we recognize that girls in at-risk communities have an even greater need for our programs. Of those we serve, 55% are from single-parent households, most of which are headed by women, and 53% percent are on some form of financial assistance, the highest percentage we have had in years. No girl is ever turned away due to their ability to pay.
In 2006-2007, Girls Inc. reached over 1,300 girls through our facility on Tuttle Avenue, serving girls from 22 different schools, and 15 different outreach program locations. Guided by our vision of empowered girls and an equitable society, Girls Inc. is committed to reaching all 22,000 girls in Sarasota County through our programs and public education efforts.
