Winners announced: "She Knows Where She's Going", "Visionary" and "Girl of the Year" Awards.03/31/08
Girls Incorporated of Sarasota County has announced the winners of its annual “She Knows Where She’s Going” Awards, Board of Trustees’ “Visionary Award” and “Girl of the Year” Award. Recipients will be honored at the 20th annual Celebration Luncheon on Wednesday. April 16, 2007. This year’s event will be held at the Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota, 1111 Ritz Carlton Dr, Sarasota, FL 34236. Girls Inc recently won the WEDU’s “Be more…Entertaining” (special events) award for last year’s Celebration luncheon.
This year’s Board of Trustees’ “Visionary Award” winner is Jaime Wallace. Joining the firm of Icard, Merrill in 1985, Ms. Wallace became the first woman shareholder of the firm in 2006. Ms. Wallace was the first chair of the Girls Incorporated’s “Celebration Luncheon” in 1989, has served as President of Girls Incorporated’s Foundation Board and served on the National Girls Incorporated. Board of Trustees. Her contributions to our community are an inspiration to us all.
The “She Knows Where She’s Going” Award honors outstanding women for their contribution to their community and their superlative personal and professional achievements. This year’s honorees include: Susan Danis, Executive Director of the Sarasota Opera, and Judi Gallagher, a multi-media chef and culinary consultant business owner. Girls Incorporated is thrilled to honor such outstanding role models.
Girls Inc is also proud to announce that Alexis Smith is the Girls Inc. 2008 “Girl of the Year”. Alexis is a budding leader as the first mayor and post master of Dream Harbor in their MicroSociety program. MicroSociety is an innovative program design whereby children create a microcosm of the real world in an afterschool setting. Each child plays an important role as they learn how to build and run a miniature society. .
Girls Incorporated of Sarasota County is dedicated to “inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold” and fulfills its mission of empowering girls aged six and up to be self-confident, responsible and well-rounded individuals by delivering research-based, age-appropriate, after-school and summer educational and sports programs. In the past two years, Girls Inc. has served over 2,000 girls at its facility and throughout the Sarasota County School System.
