She Knows Where She's Going Honorees Announced02/04/10

Girls Incorporated of Sarasota County is pleased to announce the winners of its annual “She Knows Where She’s Going” Awards, Board of Trustees’ “Visionary Award” and “Girl of the Year” Award. Recipients will be honored at the 22^nd annual Celebration Luncheonon Tuesday, March 23, 2010. This year’s event will be held at the Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota, 1111 Ritz Carlton Dr, Sarasota, FL 34236.

The “She Knows Where She’s Going” Award honors outstanding women for their contributions to their community and their personal and professional achievements. This year’s honorees include: Charlene “Charlie” Lenger, founder, owner and president of Tropex Plant Sales and Leasing and New College graduate, and Jaymie Klauber, Owner, Polo Grill and Bar, Fete Catering, and Pattigeorge’s Restaurant. Girls Incorporated is thrilled to honor such outstanding role models.

Girls Inc. is also proud to announce that Taylor DeStasio is the Girls Inc. 2010 “Girl of the Year.”

Taylor is an extremely involved and engaged young woman who is known for her maturity, artistic talent and individuality. Taylor took a leadership role in a girl directed community service project called the “The Jill Project.” The goal was to raise enough money to build a well in Sierra Leone, Africa so girls there would not have to take a dangerous walk each day to gather water for their families and instead be able to spend that time at school. Through Taylor’s initiative and leadership, Girls Inc. was able to raise $5,000, the amount needed to build the well.

This year’s Board of Trustees’ “Visionary Award” winner is Anand Pallegar, president of atLarge, Inc. As a former Girls Inc. board member and now a committee member, Anand led the major initiative of reconstructing the current Girls Inc. website. This highly interactive site allows parents and patrons to find everything they need to know about Girls Inc. His dedication and leadership in chairing the Social Entreneurship committee will allow Girls Inc. to discover self sustaining revenue streams. His innovative approaches have allowed Girls Inc. to thrive in the areas of technology and advancement of business models. Anand’s commitment as an advocate of the girls at Girls Inc. is tremendous as he exemplifies what it is to be strong, smart and bold.

Anand is the founder of atLarge, Inc., an award-winning agency specializing in interactive branding and an interdisciplinary agency that intertwines technology, creative and strategy to deliver exemplary interactive digital solutions for clients such as Chevrolet, Ford Motor Company, Hoveround, IMG Academies, J.D. Powers & Associates, Sotheby’s Realty, the state of Michigan and Summit Hotels Worldwide.
