Money Talks!04/02/08
Girls Incorporated of Sarasota County (Girls Inc.) will be presenting the financial workshop Money Talks!, a free event for girls and their families. This two-part workshop will be held on Wednesday, April 23 and 30, from 6:00-8:30pm at Girls Incorporated, 201 South Tuttle Avenue.
Money Talks! is a family financial literacy workshop for girls ages 10-15 and an adult in their life (parents, caregivers, mentors, other family members.) Core activities focus on fundamental economic and financial concepts. The workshop is structured with the adults and girls working side by side on some activities and separate for others. Intergenerational topics include budgeting, setting goals, savings, credit, interest and talking about money without arguing.
The four hour workshops include all study materials, dinner for the entire family, child care, take-home kits, and lots of fun! This year’s Money Talks! workshops are made possible through a grant from the Florida Winefest and Auction.
Last year’s Money Talks! workshop was a huge success. Parent feedback included “Thank you for explaining compound interest,” “The budgeting was a great idea” and “I really liked it!” Girls said “I like that we learned about interest and buying things I need and don’t need,” “It was fun!” and “I will take 10% of my money and put it in the bank.”
