Girls Incorporated convenes Girls Summit02/28/08
The fifth annual Girls Summit will be held at Sarasota High School, on Saturday, March 1st from 9:00am – 2:00pm. The Girls Summit is a free annual event that provides a day of educational and fun trainings for middle school girls in Sarasota County. This year’s event will feature keynote speakers; Katie Matthews, a senior at Venice High School, who will speak about her experience of being paralyzed in an auto accident last year to becoming this year’s home coming queen; and Kitty Huesner, Ph.D., who will speak about tapping our creativity to solve problems in everyday life. The day will include many other exciting presenters who will host a wide variety of interesting sessions including career choices, creative crafts, health and beauty tips, motivation/leadership, fitness/nutrition, dating/relationships, and many more. Lunch and door prizes are also included in the day’s activities. Transportation will be provided from middle schools in north and south Sarasota County. Those students interested in transportation should contact their school. To pre-register for the Girls Summit call (941) 922-8099 or register on-line at www.cydonline.org.
This is the fifth year of the Girls Summit. This year’s event is hosted by Girls Incorporated of Sarasota County, Community Youth Development, The School Board of Sarasota County, Coastal Behavioral Healthcare, Inc., Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida, Inc., Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast, Inc. Girls Incorporated of Sarasota County is dedicated to “inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold” and fulfills its mission of empowering girls aged six and up to be self-confident, responsible and well-rounded individuals by delivering research-based, age-appropriate, after-school and summer educational and sports programs. In the past two years, Girls Inc. has served over 2,000 girls at its facility and throughout the Sarasota County School System.
