Celebrating Girls as Leaders04/25/08
Sarasota, FL. Each year, Girls Incorporated of Sarasota joins girls throughout the U.S. and Canada in celebrating Girls Inc. Girls’ Rights WeekSM. This year, during the week of April 28 – May 2, the theme is “Empowering Change through Leadership”.
As part of the week, Girls Inc. of Sarasota will host 7 dynamic female speakers to discuss their career path and their mentors. Girls who participate in Girls Inc. research-based programs will come together with:
Sonja Zant, Author of Hurricane Season,
Dr. Amy Taffeen, Sarasota chiropractor
Lillette Jenkins-Wisener, Singer/Performer
Katrina Walters, Suntrust wealth manager (and her agility dog Max)
Kathy Durfee, CEO and Founder of TechHouse
Michelle D’Ambrosio, Chef/Owner of Michele’s Original Market
Betty Comora, Author of “The Food Allergy Coloring Book”
These speakers will discuss leadership, how their mentors affected their lives, the importance of making good choices and how leadership experiences benefit both girls and the greater community.
“We feel it is extremely important for girls to find role models who have achieved a great deal and who may have had to overcome a number of obstacles. It is vital for the girls to see that their goals are within their reach and foster the belief that good mentors light their path”, stated Stephania Feltz, Executive Director of Girls Inc.
Girls Incorporated of Sarasota County is dedicated to “inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold” and fulfills its mission of empowering girls aged six and up to be self-confident, responsible and well-rounded individuals by delivering research-based, age-appropriate, after-school and summer educational programs. In the past two years, Girls Inc. has served over 2,000 girls at its facility and throughout the Sarasota County School System.
