“Girls Under the Hood” teaches girls basic automobile terminology, maintenance and trouble shooting and provides an introduction of young women to careers in the automotive industry. In a partnership with Encore Motorcars of Sarasota Inc., girls ages 9-12 and their parent/guardian will learn the fundamentals of car care such as checking tire pressure, oil and air filters. The girls will also learn about safety issues with cars including the identification of break problems, jumpstarting your car and what to do when your car overheats. The girls will be able to look under the hood of a car and actually be underneath the car to learn how the car works. Girls will also explore careers in the automotive industry, choosing a good repair shop and how to deal with a mechanic.
