Girls Incorporated is a multifaceted organization. It is a scholarly organization in its exploration of what pressing issues girls face. It is an advocacy organization speaking out on behalf of equitable opportunities for girls. It is an educational organization in its development of innovative programs that help girls develop strategies for leading successful and independent lives.
Girls Inc. sits on a 2.9-acre campus that contains a ten thousand square foot educational building, a ten thousand square foot gym, a large, indoor, large heated pool, two tennis courts, a soccer field and a large pavilion.
The Girls inc educational building houses a math and science lab, a multipurpose auditorium room, a library, a teen room, a computer lab with high speed internet access, two multipurpose classrooms, and a large, commercial grade kitchen where light meals are prepared for (and by) girls.
In 2007-08 , 472 girls attended Girls Inc.’s center-based after-school program and its summer program. Hundreds of girls were reached through Girls Inc. outreach and community programs, including programs in middle and high schools, workshops, and an annual Girls Summit.
Girls Incorporated provides transportation to girls from 20 schools daily to the center during the school year through a transportation coalition with a local community organization and a year-round snack program funded through the Florida Department of Health. The agency offers sliding-scale scholarships to girls whose families cannot pay the low monthly membership fee.
45% of the girls who attend Girls Incorporated come from families with household incomes below $35,000, 55% of girls come from single parent homes and 35% of the girls come from minority households. Seventeen percent of our girls are on full scholarship and 42% who attend Girls Incorporated receive some form of financial assistance???
Of the 203 girls who are enrolled in our after-school program, 17% are African American, 1% are Asian American, 20% are Hispanic, 16% Multiracial and 46% are White. ???
Of the 338 girls who are enrolled in our Summer Camp, 18% are African American, 1% are Asian American, 15% are Hispanic, 9% Multiracial and 56% are White.
